Paul Irwin Crookes speaks on Europe-China relations after Brexit at the EU-Asia Centre in Brussels
Paul Irwin Crookes joined a panel of specialists as a speaker to analyse Europe’s strategic future relationship with China in light of the Brexit referendum result. The event was hosted at the Press Club by the EU-Asia Centre in Brussels and the audience included members of the international media, officials from the European Commission, business executives and academics.
Paul’s presentation drew on the latest research from his new book on the politics of the EU’s economic relations with China, co-authored with John Farnell who was also on the panel alongside Yang Xiaoguang from the Chinese Mission to the EU and Norbert Wunner from DG ECFIN of the European Commission. Key themes explored in the discussion included the evolution of the strategic partnership between the EU and China, tensions over the EU’s position on granting market economy status to China, inward investment preferences by Chinese enterprises across Europe and the priorities for future UK-China relations in light of the Brexit decision.
